North Room: Alyson Shotz

Folding Space

April 22 - May 22, 2004

Opening Reception: Thursday, April 22, 6 - 8 pm

Folding Space is one in a series of recent sculptures by Alyson Shotz inspired by readings about string theory and extra dimensions. Made of hundreds of cut plastic fresnel lenses stapled together, the piece captures the surrounding light and color, seeming to bend and shape the space within and around.

Alyson Shotz has been included in many notable group exhibitions including "Pastoral Pop" at the Whitney Museum at Philip Morris; "Greater New York", at P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, and currently "Unnaturally", a touring ICI exhibition. Recent exhibitions include a one-person show at the Tang Teaching Museum(with comprehensive catalogue) and "Yard: an exhibition about the private Landscape that Surrounds Domestic Architecture " at the Socrates Sculpture Park, Queens, NY.
