Dan Fischer’s graphite drawings are meticulous recreations of photographs of artists or their signature works of art, such as Jeff Koons’ sculpture, Rabbit, Ed Ruscha in front his 20th Century Fox painting and Ana Mendieta’s Self-Portrait with a Mustache. Through his choice of images and his labor intensive creative process, Fischer stifles with the complex nature of the photograph, the portrait and the iconic image. At first glance, these drawings appear to be actual photographs, but upon closer inspection, the warm textures Fischer creates with the pencil astonish the eye and endow the work with a highly personal quality and singular aura.
